More

jaw surgery, Palo Alto

To correct this gentleman's jaw deformity it was necessary to advance the upper  and lower jaws. The lower jaw advancement was so great at 15mm that mandibular distraction was done with an intra-oral device. Lastly the chin was small so a sliding genioplasty was done with his own bone. Orthodontic treatment was performed prior to and after surgery for a period to enable a perfect class I occlusion. The teeth and face were correctly aligned which also improved the airway size and breathing. No wiring together of the jaws was used.
